In my relatively brief 26 years on this planet, I have survived quite a few "end of the world prophecies." Most notably and recently, the Mayan apocalypse. At this point, I'm practically a veteran of surviving these catastrophic events. I've survived 4 Harold Camping predictions, dozens of 1999-2000 predictions. 2 Jehovah's witness predictions. 1 Isaac Newton prediction. 1 Nostradamus prediction. Roughly 9 cult predictions.
At this point, I'm feeling pretty good about my odds of surviving further apocalyptic predictions. The odds have been clearly stacked in my favor. I feel pretty confident that I can rule out climatically catastrophic events as my eventual cause of death. Unfortunately, I have yet to rule out car crashes, cancer, disease, shooting, stabbing, hypothermia, drowning, choking and other various obvious causes.
But on the positive side, ruling out the apocalypse is a pretty big cause to eliminate. Now I just need to be able to confidently eliminate the rest of the possibilities. No big deal.
