This is the first time in years where I got my shopping done before the 23rd or 24th. I've found that I have a penchant for getting my shopping done at the very last second in the most stressful fashion possible. Every year, I make half-hearted promises to get my shopping done earlier the following year. For once, I finally made good of that promise. I've been done for 3 days now and it's a wonderful feeling.
However, fighting the crowds was horrible. Everywhere I went, I was sandbagged by an extreme lack of service. At one store, I saw a total of 3 people on the floor. Two of them were working the cash register. The other one was doing some sort of work that didn't involve helping customers at all. This store is massive and huge. It doesn't make sense that during the busiest time of the year that they are so incredibly under-staffed. The other store, there was an excess of employees who all seemed to be concentrated on just creating the illusion of being busy by speed walking to and fro, but not actually doing anything. Eventually, I got some half-assed service that included a long inconvenienced sigh from the employee. Now I understand that it's a busy time of the year and it can't be easy. But suck it up, asshole! It's your job. Do it.
All in all, my shopping is done and I'm very content with that. Maybe next year I'll get done at an even earlier time.
